Carbon footprint domestic and incoming tourism Amsterdam and region 2023

Project: Research

Project Details

Description

This project aims to deliver a comprehensive carbon footprint analysis of domestic and incoming tourism to Amsterdam and the region for 2023. The analysis will calculate emissions per person per day, per trip, and in total, based on transportation to the destination, accommodation (where applicable), and activities undertaken (categorized by visit motives such as beach, city, nature, etc.).

The final deliverable is an accessible report in PDF format (in Dutch) that includes a detailed description of the methodology and the results of the carbon footprint analysis for both domestic and incoming tourism and day visits to Amsterdam and the region.

Societal issue
CO2 emissions represent the contribution of an activity, country, industry, or person to climate change (global warming). These emissions are caused by the combustion of fossil fuels for generating electricity, heat, transportation, and so forth.

Benefit for society
Carbon footprint reports provide companies, organizations, and governments with the ability to assess the consequences of climate policy, make strategic decisions, and adjust products and communications accordingly. For incoming tourism, marketing modifications can also be considered. When combined with data on expenditures or revenues, the eco-efficiency of source markets can be determined, enabling more balanced policy decisions to be made.
