Research interests

Mata is an academic and digital creative with over 15 years of experience in both design and writing for a broad range of entertainment media.

In 2006, Mata completed a PhD on the influence of technology on narrative and identity in modern fiction.

He currently works as a professor of creative & entertainment games at Breda University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands, as well as consulting on game & narrative design.

"...I work to find new ideas and inspiration both for and from the games industry, looking at ways in which we can create new groundbreaking content for the entertainment and creative industries..."

Subjects

Areas of particular interest include diversity, storytelling, experience design, and bringing games into a broader field of social discourse through discussion with both industry and non-industry media. Alongside this, he is looking for avenues to integrate digital games and strategies into traditional entertainment experiences, such as cinema, theatre, and books
