    Research interests

    Joost is principal investigator in the field of cycling behavior research at Breda University of Applied Sciences. In his work Joost focusses on active transport and the interaction with the built environment using innovative research approaches such as GPS tracking, BIG-data analysis and Virtual Reality.

    He studied traffic engineering and urban geography and is an experienced researcher and lecturer in the field of urban development and mobility, specialized in traffic forecast modeling. He has been involved in many international and national research projects, published articles and conference papers. Next, Joost is known for his national and international collaboration with the work field. As project manager of several national and EU projects Joost translates (applied) scientific knowledge and practical relevance. Most of his research concentrates on the relationships between urban planning and (active) transportation including topics such as accessibility, spatial quality and especially e-cycling. Currently he combines these research activities with a PhD study at Utrecht University.

    His ambition is not only to acquire new knowledge but also to share this knowledge with the (upcoming) professionals in the field, hereby strengthening the connection between research, education and the relevant fields of activity.
