Personal profile

Research interests

Jeroen Klijs studied Urban, Port, and Transport Economics at the Erasumus University Rotterdam. After that he worked for Ecorys, a Rotterdam-based international research and consultancy firm. He contributed to several research project, including studies about the Trans-European Network (TEN), international road safety, and public transport policies. After one year he returned to the Erasmus University, where he worked for RHV BV and Euricur.

At RHV BV/Euricur Jeroen participated in several research project, including ‘Partners for Healthy Cities’. This project was based on an international comparison of policies to create cities that contribute to the health of their inhabitants. Case studies were done in Vancouver, Liverpool, London, Rotterdam, Udine, and Helsinki. The focus was on the cooperation between public and private actors, and citizen involvement. Besides research, Jeroen was also a lecturer and theses supervisor in several initial and post-initial courses and was one of the coordinators of the Master City Developer (MCD). The topic of this course is large sale urban redevelopment (‘gebiedsontwikkeling’ in Dutch).

In 2010 Jeroen joined the NHTV as a researcher and lecturer – combining this affiliation with his job at RHV BV/Euricur. At the NHTV Jeroen started working on his PhD research about the economic impacts of tourism. In February 2016 Jeroen sucesfully defended his PhD thesis at the University of Wageningen. The research involved the application and further development of one model to calculate the economic impacts of tourism; the input-output model.

Since September 2014 Jeroen works fulltime for the NHTV. Jeroen is a researcher and lecturer at the International Tourism Studies Department and an economic research fellow at the NHTV Center for Sustainable Tourism and Transport.
