    Research interests

    After studying Recreation Sciences and Sociology of Recreation and Tourism at Wageningen University & Research (Cum Laude), Bertine Bargeman wrote a PhD thesis on tourist choice behavior at the Department of Leisure Studies at Tilburg University which she finished in 2001. At this department she continued working as a senior lecturer and Program director until 2014.

    From 2006-2009 she had combined her work at the department with a post doc position on the topic of sustainable tourist mobility at Telos, the Brabant Centre for Sustainable Development in Tilburg. With the transfer of the MSc Leisure Studies in 2014 from Tilburg University to Breda University of Applied Sciences her job moved to Breda too.

    At the Academy for Leisure & Events she is the director of the MSc Leisure and Tourism Studies and co-responsible for the premaster Leisure and Tourism Studies. She prefers to teach subjects such as tourist (choice) behavior and practice theories in leisure and tourism. Her academic research and publications focus on these topics too. As a senior researcher Bertine is closely associated with the ALE Knowledge group Experiences & Storytelling and gives presentations both in the Netherlands and abroad. Furthermore she is very experienced with supervising BSc, MSc and PhD candidates.
