Research interests

Corné Dijkmans is Manager Research & Business Innovation at the Academy for Tourism of NHTV Breda University of Applied Sciences, senior lecturer/researcher in Online Marketing & New Media Technology at NHTV and CSTT (Centre for Sustainability, Tourism and Transport). He holds a PhD in Communication Science from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, a MSc in Business Economics from Tilburg University, and a MSc in Marketing from TIAS School for Business and Society.

As of 2012, he conducted research in cooperation with the Department of Communication Science at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and ACSM (Amsterdam Center for Social Media). His research interests focus on the effects of interactive communication technology via online channels by companies on their relations with the public, in particular in the travel and tourism industry. His research has been published in international ISI-ranked journals, and has been presented at several national and international conferences in the field of communication and marketing, such as the annual ICA conference (International Communication Association), and ICORIA (International Conference on Research in Advertising). Furthermore, he is the author of the books ‘Social Media To Go’ (2014) and ‘eMarketing To Go’ (2015), and developer of the international online business simulation ‘Emerald Forest Hotel’, utilized in higher education institutes in 7 countries across Europe.

He was involved in EU Lifelong Learning Programme projects focusing on the training of lecturers to improve the attractiveness and quality of higher management education by the use of information & communication technology (ICT), e-learning and online media. Currently, he actively participates in several national and international projects, such as in the frame of Erasmus+.
Central thread in his work is the innovation of (tourism) business and education by the use of ICT, online communication and new technology.
