Profile Information

Academy for Tourism / CSTT

In the context of our highly dynamic and complex society, we observe a growing importance of tourism as overarching, cross-sectoral field of economic growth and societal development. Classical areas of tourism, such as the travel industry, recreation, destination management and planning/policy making are getting increasingly intertwined.

Building on the Academy for Tourism’s historical involvement in academic research during the last 50 years (fundamental and applied), its research program has achieved positive outcomes both in quantity and relevance of research production, critical mass of capacity, and close connection to education and to academic and professional partners such as NBTC (Dutch Tourism Board), ANVR (Dutch Travel Industry Association), KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Amadeus, and many others.

The Academy for Tourism features the research unit Centre for Sustainability, Tourism and Transport (CSTT), which aims to contribute to an improved understanding of the tourism phenomenon in all its aspects, and to support the tourism industry by answering their questions.

We use, and develop, innovative and valid research methods, and we convert internal and external private and public funding sources into valuable and relevant scientific and professional output.
Through our research, we intend to increase the value of tourism for society.
