Critical framing of games and topsport.

Activity: Talk or presentationGuest lectures/talks/presentations (not at a conference)

Description

A guest lecture and discussion regarding the links between video games and live sports events. The presentation covered the history of sports and video games, the progression of graphical and interaction fidelity, branded entertainment, the use of (and challenges for) video games as a pathway to in-person sports and fandom, and the complexity of AR/VR mediums for stimulating life-long sports appreciation (both positive and negative). A key takeaway is the need for critical thinking about how formats are used.
